RICHARD WEINGARTEN

Managing Director, Intellecap

Richard Weingarten was until recently the Managing Director of Intellecap. Intellecap is a pioneer in providing innovative business solutions that help build and scale profitable and sustainable enterprises dedicated to social and environmental change. The firm provides a broad range of Investment Banking, Consulting, and Knowledge services to clients around the world. Intellecap has its headquarters in Hyderabad, India. Prior to joining Intellecap, Mr. Weingarten was the founding Managing Director of the Norwegian Microfinance Initiative (NMI). During his tenure NMI made commitments and investments of approximately US$ 70 million and was reaching more than 12 million poor and low-income clients through 80 microfinance institutions in 34 countries. Before his work with NMI, Mr. Weingarten was the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). UNCDF is an independent fund of the United Nations that made investments in Inclusive Finance and Local Development in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). During Mr. Weingarten’s term, UNCDF worked with more than 30 national governments in the LDCs. UNCDF was also the host and sponsor of the International Year of Microcredit and the UN Advisors Group on Inclusive Financial Sectors. Mr. Weingarten is a graduate of Yale University and the Antioch School of Law. His career includes law, venture capital, investment banking, and providing financial and strategic advice to a wide variety of firms around the world.
