Seed Funding
Amrita TBI is now providing seed funding to selected incubatees, in collaboration with TIDE (Technological Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs) scheme of DIT, Govt. of India
Funding
In association with the Department of Information Technology’s (DIT) Technological Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE) scheme, Amrita TBI is providing seed funding to selected incubatees.
Objectives of the TIDE scheme include :
- Strengthening Technology Incubation Centres in institutions of higher learning by nurturing Technology Entrepreneurship Development for commercial exploitation of technologies developed by them
- Promoting product oriented research and development
- And encouraging development of indigenous products and packages and bridging the gap between R & D and commercialisation.
Technologies/Companies being considered under the TIDE scheme include:
1. Gesture-Based Control System
-
Paraplegic people find it extremely difficult to perform any task that requires even small amounts of force. Their limited movement capabilities dictate that they must use powered wheelchairs for locomotion. Controlling and navigating existing wheelchairs is usually through joysticks or buttons. Some quadriplegics find these extremely difficult to use - movements such as pressing buttons or controlling a joystick are impossible for these people, who lack fine motor control hence the need for this kind of an innovation
2. Haptics (Devices for Skills Development)
-
Haptic devices are especially relevant in the early learning process. The student can use kinesthetic learning methods and practice the various methods and procedures without the aid of an experienced instructor. Once the initial level of proficiency has been established, further proficiency can be gained by working in the industry.
For example, violin students in Ireland learn to play the violin using haptics. The student is haptically guided to follow the master’s movements in using the bow.
